Rabri and democracy

Former chief minister of Bihar Rabri Devi who is wife of Railway Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav showed her footwear( chappal) in Bihar assembly and also abused another lady legislator! Shame !! shame!!!!
When will people stop voting for such people who doesn't have simplest of etiquettes of behaving in public forget about the honour of assembly and parliament. This incidence is a dirty spot on history of our parliamentary democracy.
behavior of the legislators have come to such low standards that it raises a question about the necessity of assembly sessions. Scrap them as hardly anything constructive happens there.
People have elections get number and then form governments - no role for assembly in either making policy decisions or other important decisions.
Someone somewhere should do something for improving this situation. Please!!!

Politicians will sell our country again

Its a well documented history that we indians lost our independence to british through money not by military invasion. They found our rulers hungry for money and power that time. Today's politicians will repeat it, it seems. Today only I saw a report which quotes former IB cheif saying that a CM of a state is an important link for ISI in india. If our representatives decide to do this, at the end we will fall easy prey to divisive plans others have for us. Because once CM is OK with something by extension majority of the people are also fine with it. When will we find real good representatives god knows. God save our motherland and democracy!
Long live INDIA and her Democracy

We are a democracy and doing not too bad. Many a time's people in India (including Bihar now) have proved that they can be taken for a ride not for long. But think of few things which can be easily implemented to improve things. I will try to explain my worries point by point.

  • We in India elect our representatives to parliament and assembly. We are made to believe that it's our voice that is carried out by the representative. Does that really happen? The person we have elected doesn't have his own say in the parliament. He can take part in debate which hardly anyone listens and I fear for many issues it won't take place also. But when it comes to voting he has to go with the party. So at the end he has to do what a party whip says. So undemocratic. It means that effectively when we vote for a person we are voting for the leader of that party. If that's the case why make this kind of farce and let us have only parties contesting from each constituencies and then which party gets majority will rule us. Or the coalition. The representative if at all has to be there let the winning party decide this. This I don't think happens in other mature democracies. There is no such thing as whip. And voting pattern is not along the party lines. This means that an issue is handled on its merit and a representative's personal judgment. So this whip thing should be removed. As because of this only thing to show difference is threat to quit the party but with antidefection law at place even that is unthinkable many a times. So our representative has to go with party.
  • Role of Rajya Sabha was thought to be guiding one, where we assume that expertise on various subjects are represented as well as experienced policy makers. If that is the case it should have certain qualifications for becoming member of upper house. It is often used to get politicians discarded by their constituency into the parliament. More expert people with no political bias should be represented and the Upper house should behave with the spirit it was meant to be.

I have few more things to say but after some time.
Long live our democracy!!!
